Back2Roots Vegan Restaurant
Back2Roots, a new vegan restaurant in Ann Arbor, offers delicious, healthful, vegan food! One of the owners, Dr. Mahaveer Swaroop Bhojani, Ph.D., formerly researched cancer in the Department of Radition Oncology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Swaroop graciously greets his customers and shares his knowledge about nutrition. He and his partners provide food that is GMO free and pure and free of synthetic preservatives, colorings, and flavors. Our family learns much about the science of digestion and nutrition everytime we have the pleasure of talking with Dr. Swaroop. He emphasizes the importance of eating anti-inflammatory ingredients, and the dishes at Back2Roots are filled with them (such as rosemary, garlic, turmeric, oregano, caraway, ginger, thyme, holy basil, cinnamon, cumin and coriander). The owners work closely with local farmers to get many of these quality ingredients and to help the economy.
We started our delicious dining experience at Back2Roots with complimentary samples of their Power of 7 smoothie. It was so tasty that Marissa ordered it to go with her meal. Kim had a side salad with creamy ginger miso dressing:
Marc had a salad with lemon herb vinaigrette and Mark had veggie chili. We all loved our entrees! Marissa had the Himalayan Basmati Bowl (Crispy tofu with brown rice, coconut, chickpeas, coconut curry, greens, cucumbers, tomato, assorted shoots and a kale & date chutney). Marc had the Southwester Black Bean Burger (staying true to his nickname). Mark enjoyed the Signature Sunny Side Up burger (made with quinoa, sunflower seeds and topped with a hemp seed vinaigrette and cashew cheese). Kim had the That Beets Burger (tender patties made from sweet potatoes, beets, and greens):
Of course we indulged in dessert without feeling guilty and they were scrumptious. Kim’s favorite was the Chocolate Terrine which was served with blueberries, peanuts and date syrup:
Marissa loved the Ginger Lemongrass and Cashew Panna Cotta with Chia Seeds. It was served with a mango puree and and oat and pumpkin seed crumble:
Not only was the food delicious, the customer service was great as well. Our servers, Sherrie and Brenquana were friendly, helpful, and a joy to talk to.
They put up with our multitude of questions and made our meal a pleasure.
Next time we visit Back2Roots we plan on trying the Jack Fruit Jerk Wrap and the Asian Dragon Bowl. We can’t wait!
