Mediterranean Restaurants
Mediterranean restaurants are one of our favorite places to eat at because they offer so many vegan options! We live in the Detroit metro area, and two of our favorite restaurants are Lebanese Grill and La Saj. But, these types of restaurants have similar menus wherever you go, so these tips should help no matter where you live. At both Lebanese Grill and La Saj, the garlic sauce is vegan. Yay! This white, savory, pungent sauce is served with pita bread (also vegan). It is made with garlic (surprise!), potatoes, olive oil, and sometimes cilantro. Here is what we usually order:
-house salad
-lentil soup
-veggie ghallaba (sautéed vegetables and tomato based sauce with seasonings) made with no oil (both these restaurants are very cooperative about this)
Chickpea also loves their hot tea which is made with spices, similar to Chai tea.
Some other vegan choices at Mediterranean restaurants include: majadara (see picture below),
burgul (cracked wheat cooked with veggies), veggie grapes leave stuffed with vegetable, rice and herbs, grilled veggies and raw juices.
