Three Year Vegan Anniversary
Today is our three year vegan anniversary! Bean and I can’t believe it has been 3 years already. Wow, how time flies. Bean continues to be medication free and his latest blood work from September was excellent. To celebrate we want to share 3 of the most significant things we learned so far:
1. Try your best–forget the rest.
Eating a plant based, whole foods diet has many dimensions. Do the best you can with what you know at the time. If you make a mistake, that’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Move on and stay on track.
2. You are not alone.
Sometimes a plant based lifestyle can feel isolating. We hope you have family members or friends that support you, whether they are vegan or not. Look for connections in your community (such as the Detroit metro area Plant Based Nutrition Support Group). Find social media communities with like minded people on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. Read books and magazines about vegan food and lifestyle. The articles about success stories and research inspire us often. Go to Vegfest and surround yourself with a crowd of people who care about the same issues you do. Email us or comment on our posts. We will support you too!
3. Share your passion with your action.
Show others the benefits of living this way by what you do. Lead by example. People will notice how healthy you are, how trim you are, how your skin glows, how much energy you have, how you have a positive outlook, and how you enjoy substantial portions of delicious food. They may not change- a plant based way of life may not be for them at this time in their lives-but at least you will have exposed them to this healthful lifestyle. You have helped make it possible for them to choose. When Bean reversed his diabetes and fixed his high cholesterol and high blood pressure by going vegan 3 years ago, we asked each other out loud many times “Why didn’t anyone tell us years ago?” So, let other people witness the benefits you experience.
